19th c. Chalice
A 19th c. treen chalice in original red paint.
Constructed from a single body of maple wood and turned on a lathe. A tall tapered bowl sits atop a robust stem with a medial knopf. Generously finished with a thick footed base.
Retains a fabulous as-descended painted surface with anomalies and light wear. Overall excellent condition with a small chip near the rim created during the turning process.
A lovely piece of treen for the collector carefully seeking form, proper as-descended surface qualities, and uniqueness.
Northeast origin. Ca. 1875-1890. 6 3/16"T.
