19th c. Gameboard
A 19th c. gameboard in various polychrome paints.
Constructed from a single thin stock body of eastern white pine wood in a square bodied form. Thin stock applied moldings accentuate all borders and are applied via a series of small square shaped iron brads.
The paint decoration is comprised of an oyster white and black playing field surmounted by a bittersweet colored border accented with wheat plant decoration in each frontal corner in black paint.
A thin original varnish is present with quality surface characteristics. A necessity for protection on a playing field.
Remains in an excellent state of condition with minor warping being consistent with age. Northeast origin. Ca. 1875. 13 3/4" x 14".
