19th c. Painted Salt/Spice Container (SOLD)
A 19th c. salt/spice container in original paint decoration.
Unusually constructed in two parts and joined with a simple mortise and tenon joint joining its upper basin of bass wood to the maple wood base.
Simple paint decoration adorns its exterior comprised of a mustard colored ground with sponge decoration in brown and muted red swabbing.
Remains in overall very good condition with minor historical wear and a few scattered checks near its rim all being consistent with its age and wood type.
Northeast origin, likely northern New England. Ca. 1830. 3 1/2"T.
