19th c. Redware Jug (SOLD)

19th c. Redware Jug (SOLD)

A 19th c. redware jug produced by an unknown potter in Maine. The body employs an ovoid form with an applied ribbed handle. A beautiful deep salmon glaze is applied and accentuated with highlights of light green concentrated mostly on the spout and shoulder. One single long streak dramatically runs diagonal across the body, marrying the form and decoration into an attractive design.

Excellent original condition, free from cracks or hairlines. A few scattered kiln marks. Ca. 1810-1830.

For a very similar example, see figures 12.64 and 12.174 in "From One Town Came Many The Red Earthenware Industry of Ancient North Yarmouth, Maine" by Justin Thomas.
