19th c. Watchmen's Lantern (SOLD)
A scarce 19th c. watchmens lantern in oirignal black paint.
Constructed of tinned sheet iron with a conical top and applied tin ring handle attached via drawn iron wire. Hooded vent holes adorn its top with creased decoration.
And attached handle is applied via soldering and is accompanied by a tube attached underneath for use on a staff to elevate.
The front door features a punched cut window with shaped profile. A single piece of original horn is inserted to act as a window, a common element amongst hand lanterns of the period.
Retains a beautiful as-descended paimt surface showing historic elements, oxidation, patina and light wear from use. Scarcely found in small format.
