Early New England Spice Box

A 19th c. hanging or table top sitting spice box in original red paint.

 

Constructed from pine wood with early square nail joining. The casing is comprised of a square body design with a deep sloping upswing cutout, serving also as a handle, terminates with a lolipop. Two drawers serve storage with the top drawer being divided. Both retain original brass knob hardware. Retains a quality historic surface , undisturbed with evidence of light use.

 

Remains in an overall very good stage of condition with two very old drawer lip losses remaining consistent with age and use. New England origin. Ca. 1830. 14"T x 9 1/8"W x 8"D.
