Early Storage Bucket

Early Storage Bucket

An early 19th c. storage bucket in original red paint.

Constructed of a pine wood staved design, the body features a tapered profile. The pine wood staving surmounts a thick pine wood bottom and is secured with ash wood bands, interlocking with a chamfered joint.

The lid is comprised of pine wood and ash as well, secured in a lap joint with a combination of wooden pins and various early nails.

While the original purpose of use is unknown, great joinery and structural integrity were kept in mind during its manufacture making this of above average quality, especially with the inclusion of iron nails joining the staves to the base, painted interior of the lid and painted bottom.

Retains a phenomenal painted surface, rich in texture and color. Excellent condition with very light wear. Displays beautifully.

New England or NY origin. Ca. 1800. 12 1/2"T x 12 1/2"W.
