Early Tasting Spoon
A late 18th or early 19th c. wooden tasting spoon in original surface.
Constructed from a single block of striped maple wood and carved entirely by hand. A long and narrow tapered handle rests at an exaggerated angle, modeled after late 18th and early 19th c silver ladles. Likely a more rural interpretation of a fine silver example.
The top side of the handle is tooled with decoration and intialed "W" with half letter loops and finished with a period.
Excellent as-descended condition with desirable surface qualities.
American, likely northeast origin. Ca. 1800. 8"L.
