Lidded Feather Basket
An early 20th c. lidded feather basket in original surface.
Beautifully made with stately form. The body and lid are woven entirely of black ash wood and woven to produce a squared body with a round rim and lid. The lid itself is adorned with a functional handle loop woven into the stanners and reinforced with a coiled wrap. A swing handle of generous thickness and size is woven into the double handles and is also coiled for reinforcement. Cleverly formed feet made of an upturned splint elevate its base.
The use of quality scrape black ash weavers, neatly coiled rim and handle, complexity of design, and tannin dyed finish attribute the maker to being experienced and competent in its production
Survives in a wonderfully preserved state of condition with glowing color and undisturbed surface elements.
Northeast, likely New England origin. Ca. 1900-1920. 15"T OAH X 10"W.
