Patriotic Folk Art Cane (SOLD)

A 1920s folk art cane in oiriginal red, white and blue paint.

Constructed in two parts with the handle apllied to a lightly tapered shaft made of bent wood in original blue paint. The end terminates with a metal cap.

Its handle is applied on the stem and is secured with a small iron tack. Carved from the solid, its form comprises multiple layers. The hand grip is carved with three dimensional twist carving and situates between two oyster white painted blocks. The top is adorned with the profile of a black man with eyes formed from what appears to be sewing pin heads and feafure relief carved ears and a formed open mouth in oyster white paint.

Likely carved during the 1920's surge of national patriotism.

Remains in overall very good original condition with minor as-expected wear being consistent with age and use.
