Rare American wooden lantern in original pewter colored paint. The body is made of Birch with beautiful lambs tongue cutouts and faceted posts. Wooden pinned construction with some early nails. Top is applied rolled tin with early offset screws and features a tin ring handle above the chimney. Glazing is partially intact suggesting that glass is likely original. The candle cup tray is an added period tray used in the typical function of early American lanterns most likely for ease of cleanup of candle drippings and ease of changing candles. Finely made in overall construction. A true survivor in very good condition for its age and general purpose of use. New England origin ca. 1800-1830. 7 1/2"W x 7 3/4"D x 17 1/4"T.
