Wonderful Early Powder Keg
An unusual treen powder keg of generous size. Constructed of oak staving with 12 hickory bands of reinforcement and a pine stopper. Expertly constructed giving a complex and pleasing appearance. Retains the original makers name and notation being made by “Samuel Curtis in his 82nd year” in gilt paint with black shadowing. Retains a very mellow finish with a well-descended surface. Remarkably good original condition. Accompanied paperwork details Samuel Curtis being born in 1719 which dates this keg to 1801. Maine origin. An extremely fine and well made early piece and one of my personal favorites. 11"T.
