19th C. Pair of Feed Baskets
A 19th C. pair of horse feed baskets. Both baskets retain their original red pait with a dry and vibrant presence. The shaping correlates tothe intended use: the basket would be partially filled with oats or hay and then a small strap and basket placed around the horses mouth so it could be free to eat at leisure. Heavily constructed to prevent the horse from destroying the basket. Both survive in a near mint state of condition with one basket having a tiny break made before painting. Fabulous surface. New England ca. 1870. Approx. 16"T.
