Early Hanging Shelf (SOLD)
A fantastic early hanging shelf in its original pewter-bluish paint. Constructed of pine wood with combination hand forged rose head nails and hand cut square head nails. Beautifully made with a rabbited middle shelf and nicely overhung bottom adding depth and asthetics. The most prominent aspect is the lovely cutout at the top with upswing, horns and demilune shaping. Wonderfully elegant shaped hanging hole. The surfsce is completely unaltered and is extremely rich in oxidation, a giveaway when looking st the nut brown color on the reverse and iron bleeding through the nails. A 10/10 for form, color, age, surface and practicality. New England, likely NH or Vermont. Ca. 1790-1810. 26"T.
