18th c. Utility Box (SOLD)
An 18th C. hanging utility box in original red paint over original primer.
Constructed of Eastern white pine wood throughout. The backboard is wonderfully cut with a simple semicurve shaped cutout casually dressed with an off-kilter chamfer to its inner edge. Its hanging hole is of massive proportion bored large and irregular to accomodate the forged nail in a home. Its display of swing marks on the reverse, out-of-round hanging hole, and interior wear provide a lens into its historic use for storage of cutlery.
Remains in an extremely well preseved state of condition given its intended use with very light and appropriate wear limited to its interior. Rich red paint adorns its exterior displaying thick red paint with texture and historic values.
A charming utility box affirmed by choice paint quality and preservation.
New England origin. Ca. 1780-1800.
11 3/4"W x 7 1/2"T.
