1920's Wood Carving (SOLD)

1920's Wood Carving (SOLD)

A 20th c. wood carving of a mammy in original paints.

Carved from a solid block of American maple wood (likely red or silver maple) and formed delicately to portray a well rendered and glowing African American woman in a seated chair with a white shirt enlivened by red polkadots. A deep windsor green dress accompanies the outfit. Nicely carved boots emanate from the base with simple detail.

Survives in superlafive original condition with light patina and contains paint surface elements to excite the paint surface enthusiast.

American. Ca. 1925. 3 1/2"T
