19th c. Chalk Line
A 19th c. chalk line in original unfinished surface.
Constructed of pine wood with a demilune shaped back. The sides are rabbeted into the backboard and secured with early hand cut iron nails. A wooden spool made of walnut wood is secured with a thick wooden pivot. At the opposing end, a crank constructed of lathe turned walnut and mahogany adorns the proper right side.
Approximately 200-250ft of old linen cording is rolled on the spool and terminates with the original hanging hook made of flattened iron.
Early chalklines seldom are seen of this era and the quality of its construction and materials elevates itself above the level of the average working tool. Retains a quality oxidized colored surface with minimal wear. Superb condition.
