19th c. Covered Spice Jar
A 19th c. wooden spice jar in original surface.
Lathe turned from the solid from a single body of maple wood with incised decoration. The lid displays a generously sized knob finial.
An attractive feature is the makers recognition of grain arrangement in the choice of wood. Large rays of grain pattern are shown and deliberate to marry the lid and body in decorative form.
Remains in superlative condition with a nicely out of round body. Surface properties remain clean with appropriate patina to the top of the lid and foot.
New England origin. Ca. 1875-1900. 4 1/2"T.
