19th c. Diminutive Gameboard (SOLD)
A 19th c. diminutive size gameboard in original blue/grey, red and black paint.
Formed of a single body of pine wood with a lightly chamfered chamfered edge on all sides. The palying field has been laid accordingly, with each individual square segregated by use of a very fine gouge.
The back retains nicely oxidized color with visible kerf marks.
The paint combination is sublime. Red and black being the traditional playing field colors surmounted by blue/grey border. Original varnish applied to protect its paint has oxidized to deep yellow influencing the blue/grey to a seafoam green color.
Retains fabulous surface qualities with craquelure. Superb original condition with a 20th c. iron hanger added. Charming for size with quaint country appeal.
Northeast origin, likely New England given its size. Ca. 1875. 10" x 10"
