A 19th c. crafted tin and wood grater in original surface. 
Constructed cleverly of the reecycled body of an early punched tin lantern and married with a hand formed wooden back. Its back is formed of 1/4" thick eastern white pine wood and features a delightfully attractive lolipop cutout with a pierced hanging hole.
A series of nails were added to attach the tinwork to its body, with one nail even featuring a leather washer.
Colonial ingenuity has marked its place in New England lifestyle for hundreds of years, showing itself amongst early Colonial items. The upcycled materials in this grater showcase the marriage of both recycled craft and commitment to iconic rural style.
Remains in excellent original condition with surface properties being ideal.
