19th c. Match Holder (SOLD)

A late 19th c. wooden match holder in original paint decoration.

Constructed from a body of lathe turned maple wood in barrel form with a lightly concaved bottom.

A base coat of mustard adorns its body and is accented with horizontal bands of black and red decoration. Its base is accented as well with pin stripes of red, mustard, black and a dirty oyster white dot.

Survives in good overall condition with two small tight hairlines being consistent with age. Its paint history is phenomenal with historic craquelure.
