19th c. Parade Drum

A 19th c. parade drum in original apple green paint.

Constructed of an ash wood shell with a pierced air hole. Two batter heads are made of stretched animal skin and secured to a hoop. Each head is then placed on the body and secured with two counter hoops with lap joints joined with iron nails and tensioned under a series of tension hooks via old rope.

Retains a fabulous painted surface seeing faint signs of historical use with patina intact.

Remains in excellent condition given age, use, and design of construction.
