19th c. Sconces

A pair of home made 19th c. tinned sheet iron sconces in original surface.

Constructed from retired and repurposed tinned sheet iron wall pockets. The fronts of each pocket were removed to accomodate the attachment of a drip pan and candle socket and soldered in place. The rear of each sconce retain their respective original tin table with irregular punched holes.

These sconces portray a perfect example of 19th c. ingenuity and necessity to recycle earlier examples into useful items. Each retain a fabulous undisturbed and natural patina with oxidation.

A best of kind example for collectors seeking fine examples of early lighting with unique factors. A charming size at 6"T each.

New England origin. Ca. 1850.
