Diminutive Bristol County Jug
A diminutive size redware jug confidently attributed to Bristol County Massachusetts production.
Potted of red earthenware clay in typical Bristol County fashion with a bulbouse base supported by a tall footed base. An applied strap handle accompanies its body and is of irregular shape being flat in the medial section. Coil marks are blatantly present and give a very organic appearance.
Finished with a manganese colored glaze over an orange ground glaze. Remnants of the interior suggest possible use as a syrup jug in-period.
Excellent original condition with minor as-expected wear being consistent with age and use.
Bristol County, Massachusetts. Ca. 1790-1820. 5"T.
