Early 19th c. Logging Scaling Rule

An early 19th c. Logging scaling rule in original surface.

Constructed from the solid in a faceted profile from a single body of maple wood. Beautifully tooled hand carved numerics and scribed line marks accompany the body.

These scaling logs were designed to determine usable linear footage of material from a tree without felling the tree.

Survives in overall good condition with appropriate signs of wear being consistent with age and use. Surface elements are ideal.

Northeast origin, likely Adirondack region of New York. 24"L.
