Early Childs Burl Cup

A 19th c. ash burl childs cup in original condition and surface.

Constructed from the solid and formed with a great degree of sensitivity. Its walls are carved with consistent thickness and express strong kerf marks on its interior. Its handle is robust in thickness, mirroring identical qualities of the basin and formed to fit the small fingers and hand of a small child.

Remains in a superlative state of condition and draws the meeting between organic nature and human utilitarian necessities. Contains a fine undisturbed surface to both the interior and exterior.

A sensitivite and perfectly executed carved example of burl wood craft.

For similar examples of burl cups see plates 1/43 and 1/44 of "North American Burl Treen" by Steven Powers.

Northeast origin. Ca. 1830-1860. 2 1/4"T
