Early Diminutive Salt
An early maple burl table salt surviving in its original finish.
Constructed from the solid as typical burl salts of the period were formed. Its body shows careful execution of its profile with visible linear interior turning marks and is finished on its exterior with a more seldom seen arrangement of lathe incising elevating itself in decoration. The ogee shape is complimented well with a corresponding foot decorated by identical incising. A beautiful chuck mark on its interior is plainly visible and shows appropriate and charming kerf marks.
The surface of its finish remains very clean and desirable leaving a mellow color with fine surface history.
Well executed with constraint to its capacitive size. A matching ideal finish makes this a choice piece of finely grained burl wood for the collector of treen or fine table accessories.
Northeast origin. Ca. 1800. 2 1/4"W x 1 3/4"T.
