Early Painted Treen Eating Plate
An early American treen eating plate in original oyster white paint with an ancient desirable varnish finish.
Constructed of a single piece of maple wood and turned on a lathe to form its shape. A simple incised line on its frontside rim dresses the rim mimicking identically pewter plates of the same period.
Its over varnish is fantastic, yellowing in color creating a mustard color in appearance. Its surface is unrivaled, collecting sediments, patina and anomalies in its 150+ years.
Remains in excellent original condition with an IMPRESSIVE 1/2" out of round structure. Painted plates are a scarcity in the marketplace with oyster white being one of the rarest colors to attain.
New England. Ca. 1770-1820. 7 1/2" x 8".
