Early Redware Bank
An early 19th c. redware bank in a multicolored glaze.
Potted in bulbous form with an incised circular ornamentation surmounting its coin slot. A central hole in the top upon inspection at first appearance suggest at one point was the witness of a finial but surface patina and some glaze coverage lend creedence to the notion of the abandonment/loss of a finial during manufacture.
Glazed in a wonderfully colored mustard ground with manganese dot decoration bleeding from gravity. Hints of green are present in some areas such as the footed base.
Survives in overall excellent condition with vibrant appearance. Unusual in color. Provenance: John Sideli Antiques
New England in origin. Possibly produced in the Salem/Danvers area of Massachusetts. Ca. 1820. 3 1/2"W.
