Early Staved Bucket

Early Staved Bucket

A 19th c. staved bucket in original plum colored paint with a gently worn oyster white painted interior.

Constructed by a white cooper and consists of a tapered body design comprising a series of wooden staves shaved accordingly and arranged around a pine wood bottom. Three metal bands with riveted ends hold its body to shape. An applied handle of ash wood is attached via two lathe turned pins secured to the body on the interior with shaved wooden pegs.

Fantastic wear is present where its handle meets the body providing a visual aspect to its historic use. Very light wear is present o the exterior and is limited to the handle from users hands.

Remains in an exceptionally well presrved state of condition, free from damage or unreasonable wear and retains a fabulous painted surface that commands attention.

New England or Nova Scotia. Ca. 1830-1850. 11 1/2"T (17"T OAH).
