Exceptional Early Diminutive Mortar & Pestle
A fabulous and scarce 19th c. mortar and pestle in original olive green paint.
Constructed each of quality maple wood and formed on a lathe. Both the mortar and pestle exhibit simple design intended by the craftsman and enlivened by an especially fitting paint color.
Mortar and pestles scarcely are found in small sizes, and less commonplace to survive in such a well-preserved state of condition given their intended use.
Retains a phenomenal as-descended paint surface with historical wear confined only to its edges.
A charming rarity for treen collectors.
New England origin. Ca 1850-1875. 7"T OAH.
