Fine Diminutive Size Burl Bowl

Fine Diminutive Size Burl Bowl

A fine and early late 18th burl bowl in original finish surface.

Formed from a single knot of ash burl wood. The design and foot closely emulate fine ceramics such as Delft being imported into the colonies during the 18th century due to the Atlantic trade routes.

Thinly and finely formed with a vasiform profile, the basin sits atop a phenomenally formed foot, very finely crafted with a concave foot, scarcely seen on burlwood. A broad lip adorns its rim, proportionally oversized. Remnants of the lathe mark are present with small shallow kerf marks echoing its removal from the lathe when being formed.

Remains in superb condition fleeing any kind of finish disturbances or alterations and exudes a charming historic surface.

Feels exceptional when held in hand.

Nee England. Ca. 1780-1800. 4 3/4"W.
