Folk Art Frame
A late 19th or early 20th c. picture frame in original polychrome paints and varnish finish.
Constructed entirely of relief carving and joined in four sections. Each section is formed from the solid and relief carved producing farm animals. Sets of pigs, chickens sitting atop tree stumps, opposing sheep and the owner, a Germanic farmer, encompass the front.
Likely produced by the depicted farmer as a proud representation of a diversified small scale farm, this frame involkes the display of prideful rural farmstead while simultaneously serving as an example of ingenuity and self-reliance.
Retains phenomenal surface elements within its varnished finish and remains extremely well preserved with vibrant color intact.
