Folk Art Tambourine

An early 20th c. wood tambourine in original polychrome paints.

Constructed of bent wood with an animal skin covering and secured with brass tacks. The body retains original red paint and is complimented by gilt painted jingles.

A dramatic folk art painting accompanies the front face representing a period appropriate portrayal of a clown on a flat black ground and surmounted by vermillion, mustard and green lunettes. Each upholstery tack accompanies the color scheme of the face.

Remains in excellent original condition with a fine, thick painted surface.

American. Ca. 1910. 11"W.
