Painted Queen Anne Mirror (SOLD)
An 18th c. Queene Anne looking mirror in old black paint over original veneered finish.
The framework is constructed of eastern white pine wood with joinery consisting of mortise joints secured with early wrought iron nails. An elaborately ornamented crest sits above boasting its original pine crest support. The crest is refined with tightly cut scrollwork reflecting the design nature of its period with multiple volutes ornamenting itself.
Originally veneered with what is likely walnut veneer, the face of the mirror saw refreshment in the second half of the 18th c. introducing a phenomenal black painted surface elevating its aesthetics to a stark and boastful appearance.
Surface characteristics are ideal for the collector seeking the finest in painted woodenware, retaining the most untouched and as-descended elements possible.
Remains in overall very good structural condition with light structural refreshments in the late Victorian period limited to the crest glue blocks only and two nail supports, a necessity to ensure longevity of its life. Retains its original backboard and looking glass.
New England origin, likely Massachusetts. Ca. 1760. 19"T x 11"W.
