Tramp Art Match Holder

A late 19th c or early 20th c. hanging match holder in original red paint.

Constructed of pine wood with tiny iron nails joining the front box to the rear backboard. Applied geometric trim is applied via glue surmounting each quadrant. Applied medalians of carved geometric shapes ornament the front and side quadrants.

Remains in superlative original codition and displays an extremely ideal paint surface with massive amounts of craquelure and crazing, a visual representation of historic use next to a fireplace for an amount of its working life.

Northeast origin. Ca. 1890-1910. 5 1/8"T.
