Victorian Letter Opener
A Victorian letter opener in original finish.
Carved intricately of two pieces. The main body is formed of maole wood with a flat blade for use and the opposing end terminating in a dogs head. A pierced collar of walnut wood serving as its handle is friction fitted to the bladr and is pierced throughout with carved acanthus leaf carving.
Finished in a dark stain and retains its original varnish finish. A small note denotes "From Dubois PA in 1930's" likely depicting when it was collected.
Survives in overall excellent condition with minor wear at its blade tip. A successful example of intricate Victorian carving.
