Victorian Wooden Bank
A late 19th c. wooden bank in original varnish finish.
Constructed of pine wood and oak. Four peaked triangular panels surmount a layered crown molded chimney serving as the coin slot. Tiny hand crafted and intricate corbels are applied with glue and serve as a dentil molding. Ogee shaped base molding is applied via glue and iron nails. The coins are accessed via a small wooden board on the base through a screw.
The original varnish eludes historic presence. The Craquelure and crazing elements are extremely strong and remain an idealistic representation of quality varnish finishes of country Americana.
Excellent original condition and retains the original base cover (3 screws misssing but easily replaced if desired). A superb bank of the period representing the height of Victorian stylization in homes of the period.
American. Ca. 1890. 6 1/4"T.
