Wooden Spice Shelf

Wooden Spice Shelf

An early 20th c. hanging spice cabinet in original blue/grey paint.

Constructed of pine wood planks and joined with butt joints secured with iron nails. Each shelf contains a frontal ledger to prevent contents from falling and accommodates spice container sizes of the period.

On its proper right side sits a piece of strsp leather in thich two different knives were stored, one likely serrated for bread and another straight edge. Witness marks are delightful, thousands of knife marks are sharply visible, showing extensive use.

Survives in overall good condition with some minor wear being very consistent with age and use. Retains a quality painted surface with historical anomalies visibly present.

New England origin. Ca. 1900 16"W x 18"T x 4 1/2"D.
